The key to a successful weight loss program is by developing a healthy diet, good eating habits and exercise habits. The nutritional needs of an individual varies, depending on the expected goals or the end results that you are planning to accomplish from your workout training plan. Dietary requirements is also influenced by the overall health status of an individual.
There are people who tend to associate bad eating habits as a way of losing weight fast, while indeed, these habits should be avoided at all cost since they will negatively affect your health and fitness level. In this article, I take a look at some of the common eating mistakes that people make which can negatively affect weight loss;
Fasting Before a Work-out
Most people think fasting will help them to lose weight quickly. However, a study published in the June 2011 issue of the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism found that, fat was utilized more after a moderately intense workout following a light breakfast, than if the workout followed an overnight of fasting.
Overusing Energy Drinks and Bars
Unless you are working out for more than 90 minutes, there is no need to take energy drinks to gym to refuel your body. You may lose electrolytes while sweating but you can easily replenish them back with a well balanced meal after a workout. Energy bars are calorie-dense. If you must have one, adjust your post-workout meals accordingly or instead drink water during workouts.
Staying Very Low in Food
Most people think that sticking to a very low fat, carbohydrates, protein, and sodium diet will help in losing weight but they forget that, human beings need those foods in normal amount in order to function properly. There is no need for you to be on a zero sodium diet, even patients with hypertension still need some sodium in small amount.
Sodium is an electrolyte that our bodies needs to move. Eating a well balanced diet with the right amount of servings will do better in terms of weight loss. Same applies to other type of food and minerals

Working Out as an Excuse to Overeat
Most people working out buy into the belief that, post-workout burn elevates the body metabolism but the truth is, metabolic rate come back to normal after the end of an exercise session. Any effect of intense exercise on metabolism disappear after two hours and only burns up to 10% of the total calories consumed during the workout proper.
For moderate intense workout sessions, it only burns up to 5%. If your 30 minute run burns about 300 calories, your increased metabolic rate after the work out only entitles 30 calories more of calories. This the amount of calories found in one small chocolate cookie. In some cases, counting calories can still be very helpful when it comes to weight loss.
Following Someone Else’s Diet Plan
Diet and workout plan need to be individualized even though we are all built in a similar manner. Our mental ability to stay on a diet is what will determine our success. The best favor you can do for yourself is to cater your diet to your needs and tastes
Not Drinking Enough Water
Our bodies can give signal sometimes that we are hungry, when actually it is dehydration caused by lack of water. The best way of avoiding this, is to make sure that you drink enough water throughout the day and during workouts.
Drinking around 6-8 glasses of water is the rule of thumb but you may drink more depending on the prevailing temperature, your activity level and other factors. You lose a lot of extra water through sweating, breathing, moving your bowel. To replace all this water loss, you need to drink enough water in a day.
Working out may be an enjoyable and rewarding experience to many but it requires determination and willingness. The six mistakes that I have mentioned in this post should be avoided as much as you can during weight loss but if you find yourself falling in one of the pitfalls, it doesn’t mean that your weight loss plan will not be successful.
You just need to pick yourself up and continue from the fallout. It is important to understand that, any diet or exercise plan should be done with the help of a workout trainer. Consult a professional trainer if you want to start any exercise/dieting plan.
