What Are The Signs of A UTI Infection?

Even though most signs and symptoms experienced by individuals suffering from Urinary Tract Infections tend to be almost similar, they are specific symptoms to each infection that can help you to distinguish the type of UTI you might be suffering from and what might have caused the infection in the first place.

Cystitis
Cystitis is the inflammation of the bladder. The main causative agent of cystitis is the E-coli and enterobacter.
Symptoms of Bladder infection
- Cloudy looking urine.
- Unpleasant smelling urine (urine with bad odour).
- Increase in body temperature.
- Decreased urinary flow (decreased urine).
- Unable to completely empty the bladder.
- Presence of blood in the urine.
- Individual is unable to void.
- Presence of bladder spasm and pain.
How to Treat a Bladder Infection
Bladder infections are usually treated by use of antibiotics, pain relievers, antiseptic and antispamodic (to decrease the muscle spasms).
Urethritis
This is an inflammation of the urethra (a tube that connect the urinary bladder and through which urine flow externally). Possible causes are; an existing UTI, STI and use of napkins (old individuals requiring napkins).
Urethritis Symptoms
- Experiencing difficult during urination.
- Burning sensation or pain during urination.
Urethritis treatment involves use of antibiotics, pain relievers and antiseptic. Patient is also advised to increase fluid intake.
Ureteritis
This is the inflammation of the ureter (ureter connects the bladder and the kidney). Possible causes of Ureteritis are viral and bacterial infections.
Ureteritis Symptoms
- Difficult during voiding
- Increase in urination frequency (urinating more times than usual).
Most ureteritis are managed by use of antibiotics.
Pyelonephritis
Pyelonephritis is the inflammation of the renal pelvis. Possible cause of Pyelonephritis is the E-coli.
Pyelonephritis Symptoms
- Flank pain on the affected side.
- Bad or unpleasant urine oduor.
- Increased body temperature.
- Increase white blood cells in urine.
- Occipital headache (pain located at the back of the head).
Treatment of Pyelonephritis involves use of antibiotics, analgesics, antiseptic and increasing fluid intake.
These are the four main different types of UTI (urinary tract infections) with their specific symptoms. Consult your physician for further evaluation if you think you are suffering from an UTI.
